Pour Some Infringement On Me: Did One Direction Rip Off Def Leppard?

by John Seay and Olivia Clark

Yesterday, Olivia Clark brought to my attention a hilarious story involving boy band sensation One Direction and stadium rock perennials Def Leppard. Apparently the title track of One Direction’s new album, Midnight Memories, is eerily similar to Def Leppard’s 1987 hit “Pour Some Sugar On Me.” Critics have pointed out the resemblance between the two songs, and also between One Direction’s “Best Song Ever” and the Who’s “Baba O’Riley.” Whether any of these resemblances rise to the level of copyright infringement is another question. What do you think? Decide for yourself after viewing these live performances of the songs as well as mash up of the two songs side by side:

“Pour Some Sugar On Me”- Deff Leppard

“Midnight Memories” – One Direction
